Sportsfield Earns Top Honors at 2021 ASBA Awards Ceremony

Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. received top honors at the American Sports Builders Association’s (ASBA) 2021 Technical Meeting Award Ceremony in Orlando, Florida in early December. Accolades included Game Changer Awards for two new product innovations, the Baseball Pitching Mound Forming System and Discus / Hammer Cage WheelForm; and recognition for their role as equipment supplier on several award-winning sports construction projects.

“The Technical Meeting brings top leaders in sports construction together annually to network, learn, and provide feedback,” said David Moxley, Director of Sports Construction Sales at Sportsfield, “it’s a true honor to receive such a positive response from this respected community.”

ASBA’s Game Changer Awards recognize a product, service, or technique designed to help move the sports construction industry forward—member attendees vote for the winning product based on how well it demonstrates industry innovation and excellence. Sportsfield earned a Game Changer Award in the Field Division for its Baseball Pitching Mound Forming System (PMFS) and in the Track Division for its Hammer/Discus Cage WheelForm.

Sportsfield’s pre-engineered Baseball Pitching Mound Forming System (PMFS) is designed for permanent synthetic infill turf installations. The bolt-together aluminum construction with rebar anchoring provisions is simply filled with concrete in the field to form a mound that meets all the specifications, rules, and requirements for diameter, height, and slope. It also eliminates complex hand-forming in the field and provides a sure proof placement for end users, plus superior stability, and durability. A four-sided pitching rubber is included, as well as a height adjustable and replaceable synthetic infill turf center section, which allows for easy removal and re-installation of the turf in the high traffic areas of the mound.

The Discus / Hammer Cage WheelForm, which is Sportsfield’s newest track innovation, ensures accurate installation of the arc that discus/hammer cage doors travel on. The bolt-together aluminum construction incorporates locater arms that attach to dual ground sleeve alignment brackets guaranteeing correct placement of the arc form to meet specifications, rules, and requirements of World Athletics (formerly IAAF) and the NCAA.

In addition to the Game Changer Awards, Sportsfield was recognized at the ASBA Awards Ceremony for their role as field equipment supplier in numerous award-winning construction projects including three that earned Gold Awards. Highest honors include Outstanding Multi-Field Facility of the Year – Warren County Sports Park at Union Village (Designer, Sportsworks Design / Specialty Contactor, The Motz Group, LLC); Outstanding Outdoor Track Facility of the Year – Danbury High School (Designer, JJA Sports LLC); and Outstanding Single Field Facility of the Year – Macomber Stadium (Designer, Stantec Sport Group / Specialty Contractors Sprinturf LLC and Firefly Sports Testing).

“We design equipment that solves industry problems, enhances safety, and makes installation and end-user operation more efficient,” Moxley said. “The honors received at this year’s ASBA Technical Meeting are a testament that we are hitting the mark regarding client needs and that makes us proud.”
