Sportsfield Specialties is celebrating its 25th year in business. Founded in 1998 with the vision of offering the sports industry with a higher level of sports construction equipment, the company opened their first manufacturing facility in Delhi, NY in 2003. The company now owns and operates another manufacturing facility in Mocksville, NC.

Each summer, Sportsfield Specialties invites talented college students from the region to participate in internships at their Upstate New York office. It is an opportunity for the students to develop practical skills in their areas of interest gleaned from working in Sportsfield’s fast-paced office environment. We were fortunate to sit down and chat with this year’s Summer Interns and learn more about their academic interests, internship duties, and favorite pastimes.

Since its beginnings in 1998, Sportsfield Specialties has earned the trust of stadium designers for their vast experience, industry innovations, and commitment to quality, safety, and customer service. So, when Major League Soccer (MLS) Commissioner Don Garber announced a multi-year expansion that included construction of several new stadiums and the modernization of existing facilities, it was no surprise that Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. had a place on the roster of equipment suppliers.

North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad, a region known for its thriving industrial culture, located between Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point, is getting a new resident. In early October, Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. will join the list of top-name manufacturers doing business in the heart of the Piedmont.

Multi-use and stand-alone athletic venues alike have unique challenges associated with modern sports facilities. For some, the challenge is to find portable equipment that is durable enough to withstand regular mobility for field changes. For others, it is a desire for increased safety without compromising aesthetics or spectator experience.

Venice High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District had a problem—their softball and baseball outfields were both shorter than the standard, which led to wayward balls landing in adjacent neighborhoods or parking lots, all located in downtown L.A. The Sportsfield Specialties Solution: conduct a trajectory study based on the venue, athletes, and conditions; and design a barrier netting system to catch the majority of balls exiting the fields. The new netting would become Sportsfield’s tallest system to date.

Since MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred’s 2016 recommendation to extend protective netting at league ballparks, Sportsfield Specialties, Inc.’s Ultra Cross® Knotless Baseball Netting has been at the vanguard of barrier netting technology. Today, it is the preferred product of NCAA, MiLB, and MLB clubs across North America. Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. is pleased to announce improved resources for athletic venue managers and sports construction clients. In addition to providing technical documents such as cut sheets, install instructions, CAD drawings, 3-part specifications, and color charts, Sportsfield will now also provide detailed instructional and operation videos for various products in their athletic equipment cache.

Last year was unprecedented on many fronts, but that did not slow down the team at Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. In fact, they closed out 2020 with improved product designs, several newly awarded and pending patents, and honors from the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA).

In December 2019, both Verde Design of Santa Clara, CA, and GeoSurfaces Southeast DBA Medallion Athletics of Mooresville, NC were honored with ASBA’s Outstanding Track and Field Facility Award – Both also sourced field equipment from Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. for their projects at Tokay High School and University of Alabama-Birmingham, respectively.

Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. announces the sixth expansion since its incorporation in 1998 at their Delhi, NY corporate headquarters. The $8M construction project, which is currently underway and slated for completion in early 2020, will add a 60,000 square foot manufacturing plant to Sportsfield’s campus.

As of January 1, 2019, Promats Athletics of Salisbury and Delhi, NY-based parent company, Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. merged forces, consolidating divisions under the SSI entity.

Sportsfield Specialties, Inc. (SSI) hosted their 13th annual Customer Appreciation Party in conjunction with the American Sports Builders Association’s (ASBA) Annual Technical Meeting and Trade Show. The event took place on December 1, 2018 at the Fairmont Princess Resort’s Plaza Bar in Scottsdale, AZ.

Sportsfield Specialties, Inc.’s (SSI) Ultra Cross® Black and Field Green Baseball Netting have attracted dozens of Major League Baseball (MLB) and Minor League (MiLB) clubs, who have installed the low-profile Dyneema® fiber knotless netting at their home stadiums and/or practice facilities in the 2018 season. This move was part of MLB’s ongoing push to expand fan safety.
